It’s been almost seven months since the last newsletter and life has been hectic with lots of ups and downs and the endless struggle of the freelance folk.
I probably mentioned it before but my relationship with social media has been pivoting towards a darker place where too much meaningless stimulation and an obscene amount of content and noise everywhere left me questioning what’s the purpose of a camera guy anymore, other than shooting for money.
I got my first camera at the age of 9, that was 32 years ago. That plastic point and shoot Canon Prima was a gift I took almost everywhere with me. Back then a single photo could mean the world: your first kickflip on a friday afternoon, some fish you caught or just a million blurry pictures of things you though would help remember the moment. I remember the joy of it, waiting for the lab to process the film not knowing if any of those 36 shots would be decent.
That same joy i recently found through Substack, reading a few individuals who share meaningful stories at a slower pace. People like David Coggins or Foster Huntington, even my friend Joanna Hruby from Ibiza. I like reading stories the same way I used to read paper mags, instead of spending hours just scrolling and building up cortisol and dopamine at an unhealthy rhythm. Social media is turning into a frenzy of continuous, short and addictive, but meaningless content. It’s the new fentanyl!
I’ll be back at writing a bit and posting photos that would usually not make it to my instagram account. Everything will be archived in this one place that also allows some of the most delicate content to be behind a paywall, in case anyone feels like supporting this independent endeavour of mine. Substack also allows any reader to comment and interact so feel free to jump in, would love to hear from anyone reading my crap. I salute you!
Here are a few photos of life lately. I wish I still had that Canon Prima.
Catch up soon.
